Tigger
Tian
Developer · Fencer · Debater · Organizer
Self-taught developer, competitive fencer, IELTS 8.5 at 13, and organizer of the Tigger International Fencing Camp. Building things, competing hard, and learning everything in between.
Who I Am
I'm Tigger Tian, a 14-year-old from Beijing, China. Self-taught developer, passionate fencer, competitive debater, and organizer of the Tigger International Fencing Camp.
I scored IELTS 8.5 at age 13, reached the U16 Grand Final at the 21st HKPDS Workshop & Tournament, and I train on the fencing strip every week. Whether it's debugging an algorithm, landing a riposte, or making a rebuttal — I show up fully.
How Homeschooling Changed My Life
Homeschooling has been the foundation of everything I've achieved. It gave me the freedom to learn at my own pace, explore my interests deeply, and develop a genuine love for learning that extends far beyond textbooks.
This flexible environment allowed me to balance competitive fencing, debate, and coding with academic excellence. I scored IELTS 8.5 at age 13, reaching the U16 Grand Final at the 21st HKPDS Workshop & Tournament, and I train on the fencing strip every week. Whether it's debugging an algorithm, landing a riposte, or making a rebuttal — I show up fully.
Without the constraints of a traditional school schedule, I could dive deep into what matters to me: building meaningful projects, competing at the highest levels, and continuously expanding my horizons.
The Story So Far
A timeline of the things I've built, competed in, and achieved.
Founded New News
Started writing English news articles at age 8. What began as a personal project grew into a publication with 650+ self-written articles over six years.
Competitive Fencing Begins
Started training seriously in foil fencing. Regular sessions, tournaments, and the discipline that comes with competing on the strip.
IELTS 8.5 — Age 13
Scored 8.5 overall with perfect 9s in Reading and Listening. Achieved at 13, competing in English debate and writing daily.
Started Self-learning dev
Picked up Python out of curiosity. No teachers, no classes, no bootcamp — just building things, watching YouTube tutorials, and figuring it out by myself.
2 * Oxford Schools British Parliamentary Debate (China Rounds) Champion
HKPDS U16 Grand Finalist
Reached the Under-16 Grand Final at the 21st Hong Kong Parliamentary Debate Society Workshop & Tournament.
Founded Tigger International Fencing Camp
Created and organized an international fencing camp in Beijing — handling logistics, coaching coordination, and brought young fencers together to learn and master the art of fencing.
MoonShot48 Hackathon 2nd Place
In the short span of 48 hours, I led my team to create a working product from scratch, earning us 2nd place at the largest hackathon for middle & high-schoolers in China.
Launched Synapse Debate
Built and launched Synapse — a debate platform with structured resources, argument frameworks, and practice tools to promote the crucial skill of critical thinking.
My Coding Journey
Entirely self-taught — I picked up programming out of curiosity and never stopped. I love turning my ideas and solutions to everyday problems into working software.
Personal Portfolio
This site — designed and built from scratch with vanilla HTML, CSS, and JS.
Synapse Debate
A debate and critical thinking learning platform — structured resources, argument frameworks, and practice tools for competitive debaters.
New News
650+ self-written English news articles spanning 6 years (2020–present). A personal publication built from scratch.
Synapse Debate
A debate and critical thinking learning platform I built and run. Synapse gives debaters structured resources, argument frameworks, motion breakdowns, and practice tools — everything needed to think sharper and argue better.
New News
My personal news publication — over 650 self-written English articles spanning six years, starting in 2020. Covering world events, science, technology, and more. Every word written by me.
On the Floor
Parliamentary debate sharpens how I think, argue, and listen. Competing at HKPDS pushed me to articulate ideas under pressure — a skill that transfers everywhere.
Format
British Parliamentary — fast-paced, structured, and demanding. Fifteen minutes of prep time, eight minutes to deliver a speech that counts.
Approach
Logic-first. Build the argument from first principles, anticipate the rebuttal, then deliver.
Language
Competing in English — the same language I scored IELTS 8.5 in at age 13.
On the Strip
Fencing is where I learned that discipline and strategy beat raw talent every time. Every bout is a chess match at full speed — and I'm passionate about it.
Weapon
Foil
Tatics. Response. Precision. Control.
Training
Competitive
Regular training sessions and tournament participation.
Philosophy
Think Fast
Read your opponent, adapt your strategy, execute with precision.
"Fencing is like coding — you plan, you adapt, and you execute."
Tigger International
Fencing Camp
I founded and organize the Tigger International Fencing Camp — bringing together young fencers for intensive training, competition, and community. From logistics to coaching coordination, I run it all.
Let's Connect
Whether you want to collaborate on a project, talk code, or just say hi — I'm always open.
